Need to step things up over the next week. My first month should be my worst month. The initial goal was to get to 10,000 steps a day, which works out to about four miles. I’ve only done that a few times.
Now for the massive geekiness of this…I was tracking this in a plain text Google notebook. I just transferred the data to an Excel spreadsheet. Now I’m going to stick it in Remedy, as the start of my long-imagined goal of having one place to track everything.

Is that counting every step you take each day or just distinct walks?
Somewhere in between, but closer to every step I take. I put on the pedometer before I walk the dog in the morning, but I don’t think I take many steps prior to that. And I’ll usually take it off when I’m home for the night, but I’m pretty sedimentary once I’m at home.
A typical day consists of walking the dog twice (yeah, just twice, and I know that’s terrible) and two round trips from the parking deck to my cubicle. Those only add up to a little more than a mile, on average, so the rest consists of all the other incidental steps. Obviously, I could get regularly get to the 4-mile mark if I simply took the dog for longer walks and added a third walk. I’m hoping that my move will motivate me to do this, as there will be more interesting places to walk.
