Oops, I forgot this LJ really is public…

My Toastie Radio website links to my Google website which links to…this blog. Why am I always so paranoid that someone is going to have a negative opinion of me after coming across this blog? Sometimes, I think I’m wise to pull some posts out of the public domain, but often I’m so damn afraid to speak my mind.

I’m not really a misanthrope. I think I just like the label. The reality is, I’m just insecure and afraid of people. There are undeniably legions of people deserving of mocking and scorn, but I don’t really mean to denigrate the entire human race.

This is an off-topic post answering an earlier post of yours to Triangleites (and also my blog) about Trinity Park.

I actually live near, but not quite in Trinity Park – I live in Old West Durham, which is slightly further west, but which adjoins Trinity. OWD is notable, among other things, for a *very* active neighborhood association; which is a good thing. (They actively encourage the participation of renters, for one thing, and they are vigilant against Duke’s fairly constant attempt to screw over Durham, for another.)

I love Old West Durham, and have never felt unsafe. There has been occasional crime in the neighborhood, but my impression is that it isn’t any worse than any other reasonably urban area. There’s a good mix of people, including lots of kids. When I go for walks, I always run across other neighborhood walkers – strolling with kids, walking the dog, etc. The student-renter population around here tends much more to grad students than undergrads and as such they tend to be much quieter; again, I’ve never had any trouble with loud or obnoxious parties.

Have lived here about 7 years and have yet (knock wood) to have any trouble with burglary, vandalism or other theft. Several years ago, there was someone peeking in our windows while we were on vacation – alert neighbors notice and he fled. And that’s another nice thing about this neighborhood – it’s possible and rewarding to get to know your neighbors and that definitely makes me feel more secure.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for the reply. What you said echoes what a lot of other people have said. Essentially, I haven’t heard from anyone who wanted to live in the area and regretted it.

I think the house I’m thinking about is technically on the border of Trinity Heights and Walltown.
