Lending Tree

Lending Tree sucks
Avoid Lending Tree
Don’t use Lending Tree
Lending Tree : bait and switch

Just posted for the benefit of Googlers. I feel no desire to elaborate at the present moment. I should have googled these phrases myself before I went to their site, not after. Live and learn.

(I’ll most likely be sticking with the credit union).

EDIT: One email from a lender summarizes the problem with Lending Tree:
Please disregard the information
on the offer listed through Lending Tree because more information is required
to determine your loan program, rate, and closing costs.

In other words, if you simply having no idea where to find a mortgage lender, because your realtor doesn’t know anyone and your friends don’t know anyone and you don’t trust your bank and you don’t know how to go on a financial or credit forum and do a search and you don’t know how to use a search engine…go to lendingtree.com because they’ll give you the names of five lenders for you. But the idea that the lenders give you offers right off the bat is complete bullshit.

Another data point for you: if you decide to go with a mortgage broker, stay far far away from Kyle Spivey.

My wife and I used lending tree just recently. We both have A+ credit and an average income. They approved us for 100% financing 6.125% fixed interest for 30. They the at the last minute when we needed to have our per-approval letter per our purchase contract they called us and said they would no longer cover 100%. What happened is they saw we had 20K in the bank and they wanted it. I told them I was not going to buy a house in the dead of winter and walk in broke. So, no deal. Now they refuse to return my Lock-In fee, even though it was them who broke the agreement.
The house had other interested parties so, we didn’t have time to find a new loan. I just found out from the sellers realtor that the house is being purchased with 100% financing same rate we had. Funny Nonette with Lending Tree told me no bank was going to cover 100% for that house in that area. Lots of questionable things going on through them. Learn from my mistake . . . . Please.

I didn’t go through Lending Tree when I ultimately did get financing this past summer, but I had a bad experience with the lender I did use. I’ll let my one post on that be sufficient for naming the blood-suckers.

Whenever I refinance, I’ll first be going to a credit union.
