Whatever sells magazines, I suppose. It’s a good article, though, covering several angles. I learned some things I didn’t know before, but I still don’t have an overall judgment on what happened. The lacrosse players are assholes, regardless of their guilt or innocence. But if they are innocent, their lives are ruined, and they don’t quite deserve that. If they are guilty, we’ll probably never know, because it’s hard to imagine the DA getting convictions.
Sadly, I don’t think the culture at Duke is going to change. It seems that the arrogant and obnoxious are making no apologies for past behavior. Alumni think what’s happening to the lacrosse team is unfair. I’m embarrassed to be an alum when I hear some of their remarks.

Ugh, how awful… It’s so embarrassing, and I blanched when I saw that Newsweek cover. I can’t tell you how many people have said something about Duke to me, and some of it I can tell is of the ‘I’m pretending to symapthize, but *neener-neener*’ variety. What can I say in defense? I don’t like Duke much either… It’s kind of a shithole. Nevertheless, I did get my BA there, and I still want it to be an academic powerhouse.
I don’t really have an overall judgment either. But I hate the jock culture at Duke. If anything, I hope this serves to clean that shit up. I can’t believe that all the rest of us have to suffer slander… Just because the lacrosse team is terminally retarded.
