Police Uncover New Duke Lacrosse E-mail
I’ve made no comment on this because I’m admittedly biased. Two of the biggest assholes I ever knew at Duke were lacrosse players who lived across the hall from me in Trent freshman year. They were smug, loud, arrogrant, brash, and about everything else that epitomized the worst of Duke.

It’s about time
Agreed.
Mind you, my brother-in-law went to Duke, and aside from the sports rivalry, I generally don’t/didn’t have a problem with the school as a whole.
This wasn’t good from the start but the media has made it infinitely worse on everyone, including people who aren’t even peripherally involved. I can’t imagine this ending well no matter what happens.
The lacrosse player who wrote that email has been suspended from school (allegedly for his own protection), and one of his friends has made with the obligatory “He’s such a nice boy, he’d NEVER do something like that!” quote. Just once, I’d like to see a quote where an accused criminal is described by a friend/neighbor/family member as “kinda creepy, really.”
I think the athletic director, or maybe it was the coach, had said something like “They’re all great guys” when this story first broke. Clearly not.
It’s probably only about 10% of the students who fall into the asshole category headed up by the lacrosse team. Unfortunately, they wind up becoming the face of the university.
