I’m watching it for the third time in three days, and it is essentially the movie that epitomizes what tugs at my heart. I’m not ashamed of this. Love Actually, Toastie Radio…this is me. There’s a deleted scene in the film that, when I saw it on the DVD the other day, I thought, well, shit, that’s me, that’s me right there. All of the deleted scenes are excellent. It’s a two-hour movie, but I’d love to see a three-hour director’s cut.
Best performances…the kid that plays Liam Neeson’s stepson Sam, Liam Neeson, and Emma Thompson. And Alan Rickman. And Bill Nighy. And…well, about twenty different actors. The music is great. The score…the score that isn’t for sale anywhere that I need to find a bootleg of (they’ve used a theme from it in The Aviator ads)…it grabs my heart in such an aching but satisfying way…like the score from Cast Away.
