181 – The Ride to Hollyween

Impromptu mix made fifteen minutes before I left for Hollyween. It’s a quick play, but it’s a good snapshot of 10-31-04. I’ll make a copy for Holly as a congrats-on-your-engagement gift; she’ll appreciate it.

Another new gallery album, many super cute photos of Aremid (from 2002)

Go Sox!

Awesome.

But one brief rant…Fox seemed to be emphasizing that our soldiers were watching from a Multi-National base in Baghdad. The British and the Poles like our baseball, eh? Yes, I am cynical enough to believe that was an intentional caption by Fox to remind viewers that we’re not going it alone in Iraq as Kerry tries to point out again and again.

Hollyween

I’m trying to think of a costume for Holly and Kevin’s Halloween party on Saturday night. Last year I went as Lorne from TV’s Angel. I just posted last year’s pics to the Gallery here.

Suite!

We’re a-movin’ on up, to the top, to a deluxe apartment, in the skyyyyy…

The dickweed in 309 did not check out as the front desk had told me earlier, and he once again either watching some awfully loud movies or was playing some very loud video game. No way I was going to be able to sleep well with this. So I called the front desk, which had not yet been held up at gunpoint tonight, and the poor guy there gave me a new room, a suite, since all the regular rooms were gone, or he just wanted to be hospitable. A suite has two rooms (with microwave and fridge…I have no food or beverages), and I’m at the end of the hall, so the room on the other side of my bed is…my living room. This is super sweet. Alas, I will need to return to more humble environs next week.

No writing about my job or life, because there’s just too much to say, and I don’t wish for a brain ache right now.

I want to put in a cryptic message to a certain someone, but I do not know that would be appreciated. But, for the record, HI.

La Quinta

I finally was going to have a decent, comfortable night of sleep. I had fallen asleep before midnight. But then loud, violent sounds awoke me from the adjacent room. My neighbor has been watching an action movie with the volume way louder than it need be at 1AM. I tried for 25 minutes to ignore this, but it persisted. I called the guy’s room. The phone hung up. I called the front desk. The phone hung up. I march down to the front desk. There’s a cop there, the front desk guy is disheveled, and they’re talking about a robbery that just occurred. I retreat back to my room; La Quinta’s got bigger problems than a guest watching TV too loudly. But now my sleep has been ruined. I don’t know when I’ll get back asleep.

Killing time is proving difficult. I already took a quick walk downstairs. Many people are gone. I could go, but I’d only be able to bill 7.5 hours. I should earn my –/hr for another half-hour, at least. I feel self-conscious now.

I’ve calmed down about the workspace. I can survive. It is not nearly as aggravating as DCS. But that money issue is still there. I haven’t heard from Prashant. I fhe cannot give me an extra $3/hr–that’s what I’ll ask for–I’ll need to plan on this being a short-term gig…unless I’m willing to stick with this job when is no longer lucractive and traveling down here means I’m just barely getting by.

I guess I can force myself to read some technical documentation again.

I’ve hit another block. Nothing more to do. Need to stay until 6 in order to get in 8.5 hrs, 6:30 in order to get 9 hrs. Perhaps I’ll try to get to work by 8…or 8:30. Working a long day is difficult when there’s no work to do. Working a long day will probably be difficult when there IS work to do.
