Toastie’s LJ Kitty User Pic Gallery

Toastie’s LJ Kitty User Pic Gallery

If anyone knows of any LJers with kitty user pics that I haven’t put up here, please let me know. I’ve just started this, and maybe it will never get any bigger. Just something I did on a whim….

Hiatus, but can’t help myself

I’m still awake at 4AM, found this story about eHarmony. I hate them! I’m one of the 20% who, according to the story “aren’t the marrying type”.

“We try to be nice,” Buckwalter said. “We tell them our services probably won’t be useful.”

Fine, maybe the 2004 Me isn’t the marrying type, but help me meet one of those other 20%, and we can at least be two non-marrying types together instead of alone.

(Must remember to check to see if the Google search hate eHarmony brings this up in a couple of weeks)

Hiatus (cont’d)

Going to remain on hiatus despite recent LJ reconciliations, because it does seem to free up my writing a bit not to worry about readers, and I’d prefer to be in that mode when I write with an audience, but it will take some time to get used to writing in a non-self-conscious manner again.

In the meantime, enjoy (ok, bad choice of verbs) these links, which I learned of watching the Washington Journal show on C-SPAN:
Iraq Body Count – focuses on Iraqi civilians killed
Iraq Coalition Casualty Count – listed U.S. military dead, but also #s wounded and contractor casualties, the latter two the military does not report on

Hiatus

I’m on (another) non-private-entry LJ hiatus. Not sure how long it will last.

abugah-rayp

Bush trips over Abu Ghraib pronunciation

No wonder Arabs hate Bush. He can’t even learn to pronounce correctly the name at the center of the most critical blunder of the war. Ok, they hate him for lots and lots of other reasons, but it would help if he didn’t murder their words. Many people in the US seem to think his bumbling mispronunciations are folksy. I doubt it will come across as being quite so charming to the Iraqis.

Hmm…”abugah-rayp”…kinda sounds like “Abu got raped…” I know that’s not really funny.

Word Freak

I finally finished a book, Stefan Fatsis’ Word Freak, all about the strange world of competitive Scrabble. I enjoyed it quite a bit and recommend it to anyone who enjoys playing Scrabble, even if you never plan to play outside of your living room. I know that I’ll never be more than a decent living-room player, because it takes an immense amount of studying and practice to be good enough to play competitively, and I have no desire to make such a commitment. What I did take from the book is that I yearn to be an expert at something. (More on this in the non-public LJ at some point).

What a great column

Cleaning up index

Index revised

No longer trying to cram all minutiae into the index; trying to stick only relatively important stuff in there. I’ve only indexed the latter half of December, plus a couple of other entries. That’s my non-work project for the afternoon.

Scrabble update

2/3 of the way through Word Freak book. My Scrabble isn’t getting much better. I just beat a woman with a 780 ranking, helped in part by 96-point QUESTERS. Just raised myself up from a horrible 470ish a couple of days ago. Current stats:

W: 75  L: 127  RATING: 574  (BEST: 650)
AVERAGE SCORE: 307    AVERAGE GAME LENGTH: 11 MINS
